Ele ka sta li... Dang It!

What's up!?!

Well... our week was pretty good. We taught a lot and the members are helping out a ton. Our baptism was kiddnapped by his aunt from America and is currently at a party out of town for the next two weeks. So unfortunately he is going to have to wait until he gets back. It's Carnival time and unfortunately that means there are a lot of parties for the next couple weeks. The actual day of Carnival is gonna be scary but I don't know how bad it gets here in Fogo. Also there was a murder at the airport Saturday night so the weekend was a bit slow but other than that we had a really good week.

Things are going really well right now and we are still finding a ton of prepared people. I honestly don't know where they are all coming from but I am very grateful and I know that Heavenly Father is blessing us for our work. That couple that we found a couple weeks ago is going to be baptized this weekend and they are pretty excited. If everything works out, the guy will be able to baptize his sister at the end of the month. They are amazing though and there is honestly no way that we could have found a family more prepared on our own. My testimony has really grown that it isn't us that is doing this work. Unless Heavenly Father allows you to bring people unto Christ, it just doesn't happen. I feel very blessed to be allowed to work with and help so many amazing people. This week is going to be awesome!

Other than that though, not to much exciting happened here. We taught a lot and had some really amazing lessons but nothing really exciting happened. We are gonna have zone conference tomorrow and it should be a good one. It blows my mind how fast the time is going and how little time I have left here. My mission is passing by way too fast! The "cool" season seems to be coming to an end as the days are getting a lot hotter. It's still nice and cool at night though so that's good. Hope everything goes well this week! Love you all!

Yes, Investigators do indeed fall from the sky.

Bom dia!

Well another week has gone and January is almost over. I swear someone has put time on fast forward. It's kind of ridiculous. But, our week was really good and the only thing missing was someone getting baptized. But it's ok because all of our hard work is paying off. Heavenly Father has blessed us with a ton of prepared people and the next couple weeks are going to be awesome!

We had a lot of success this week and the members are really starting to get excited about the work. Prepared people are just appearing out of nowhere again and as a result, we are super busy. We still have a lot of work to do in order to prepare these people but they have such a strong desire and the Spirit has been working with them since before we found them. It's amazing that you can work your butt off, trying to do anything to find people to teach, and find nothing, but when you think you have tried everything, people just start appearing out of nowhere. It really just shows to me that Heavenly Father does not need us to do His work but He allows us to have success based on our faith and our willingness to serve. There are so many more people here who are ready to receive the gospel I know that He is going to continue sending His children to us.

The days have been getting hotter but once the sun finally gets behind Brava, it gets really cool out. I love Sao Filipe and I really hope I get to stay here for a long time. It's so peaceful here and the people are amazing. Plus they have the best Crioule that I have heard so far.

Not too much else happened this week. We taught a man in English yesterday and I can't do it! I prayed in English for the first time since Assomada and it was so hard! Everything just wanted to come out in Portuguese... I may or may not have troubles with that when I come home. The guy we taught was sweet though and we had a good lesson.

Also we received 360 Book of Mormons this week!!! FINALLY! There was a huge delay on the shipment and we had 0 books. Now we are set and ready to go. Have a good week!

The Mighty Thor has arrived!

Hey Everyone!

So the transfer is officially over. Time is going by so fast!! A few trends changed though as Elder H has been transferred to Mindelo. He is the first companion that hasn’t stayed with me for two transfers. Also, my new companion is Elder C and he is from Salt Lake City. So that ends my streak of foreign companions as well. He’s really awesome though and I’ll be training him to be a zone leader. His middle name is also Thor so that’s pretty intense. We’re going to have an awesome transfer and we have a lot of prepared people right now.

I am really excited to stay here in São Filipe because all of a sudden we have been finding amazingly prepared people everywhere!! The family that we found last week is progressing super fast and they love church. The members are so excited and they are now going to be baptized a week early. They want the branch president to baptize them but he will be going to the temple in Brazil the week of their original date with his family so they decided that they want to be baptized a week early. They are amazing!! We’ve got a bunch of people who have been coming to church and who are getting ready to be baptized this transfer so we are going to be very busy.

Things are really progressing in our area and it is starting to explode again. The members are helping out tons and Heavenly Father is really blessing us for our work. I hope everyone is doing well at home and that the snow doesn’t drive you all insane! It is super nice here right now and we are just enjoying the nice island weather. Have a good week!

16.2 KM... Ka têm problema!!

Happy 2013!!

Well we had a pretty awesome and eventful week. Gotta love life in Cape Verde because it is pretty awesome. So things have been a bit slow because of the holidays but they are starting to pick up. What a relief...

So this week as we were walking to an appointment, our branch president called us over to give us a reference. Not just any reference though, the most amazing, golden reference you will ever find! He told us about this young couple that lives next to his house. The man is 21, the girl is 18. They are married. AND they recently left the Nazarene church because they did not support their marriage!!!! THAT NEVER HAPPENS HERE!!! Easily the youngest married couple I have ever seen and they just want to come to church! And they did! So awesome. They loved church, he showed up in a white suit, and they now have a baptism date for February 9. I love miracles and this was one that we desperately needed.

Saturday we went out to Cova Figueira for district meeting in the other district. Everything was going just fine and we had a really good meeting. Then the bad news... no hiaces were going back because there wasn’t enough people to fill them. If we didn’t get back that day, we would have been stuck on the other side of the island until Monday. That doesn’t work so we decided to walk. It’s only about 30km so no big deal right? WRONG! It was super hot and we may or may not be a bit sunburnt. We walked for about 2 and a half hours, roughly 16km, and then Heavenly Father had mercy on us and sent a hiace. Totally worth it though because if we hadn’t left we would have most likely missed that hiace. And we had a ton of people in church the next day so we were really blessed for our decision.

We also had interviews with President O and I will say that he is arguably the most inspired man in the world. I have learned so much from him and I couldn’t ask for a better mission president. Other than that though, our week was pretty uneventful. The parties finally stopped on Wednesday and life here in São Filipe is getting back to normal.

I hope you have a good week and enjoy the start of school again. Love you all!
